Baltimore Riot

This riot happened today, the same day as Gray's funeral. Gray was the 25 years old African American who was arrested on April 12, then died a weak later from a spinal cord injury. Most of the protesters were young people of color from middle school and high school, that were seeking for a fair justice. For now we know that the police officers who did this (beat Gray to his death) they are on probation until further investigation. But the protesters see this as injustice progress, and claim that the Gray's family does not deserve this result. Billy Murphy a family attorney said "I am sure that the family is concerned, and I am positive that they are against what is beginning to develop here in town". Do you think this situation need a further investigation or it is a clear case?

The Baltimore Riots are a terrible thing that is going on right now in the United Staes. News media from all over the world came to baltimore to see what was going on. There was looting and vandalism all over the city. This is no way to make a point. Destroying the city that you live in does not bring justice to grays death. A peaceful protest does a lot more then destroying a city will. It makes the protestors look extremely bad . Yes I understand that the people of Baltimore are upset and don't feel safe in their own city but destroying it does not help anything. I also realize that the media is only showing the wort things that are going on. As they do with any sort of story. If the media would back off and show what is really going on. It would not frustrate the people as bad.

Do you think the riots were called for though? As we discussed in class the other day, citizens don't like to see violence even if there is a real cause behind the movement. I completely understand why the citizens of Baltimore would be upset with the police department however. It was also released 4 days ago that they're considering Freddie Gray's a homicide. Here's a link to an article about the statement released behind the investigation http://abcnews.go.com/US/freddie-grays-death-ruled-homicide-states-attorney/story?id=30728026 Do you think the police officers behind his murder will be rightfully prosecuted now that the riots occurred? Or do you think the city of Baltimore is going to have sympathy for the police department due to the violence against them? The media began calling the people behind the riots "thugs" and that I think is very uncalled for. The people throughout the country need to stand up to police violence however. Many African Americans are being brutally beat by police officers throughout the country and that must come to a stop.
