Obama and Immigration policies--good or bad?

President Obama has recognized the need to deal with illegal immigration. He has plans on helping illegal immigrants become legal; he also has plans to place more federal agents on the border, and to increase technology to help prevente illegall immigration; but he and his director of intergovernmental affairs (Cecilia Muñoz) don't beleive in the continued consutruction of a 670 mile fence along the mexican border.

Rasmussen Reports national survery, has reported that the majority of american citizens want the fence up. This fence I beleive is esstional in a number of things, not just preventing illegall immigration. Having this 670 mile fence along the mexican border would help crack down on drug trafficking. Many drugs are smugglled across the mexican border and brought into the US. Placing this fence up will either prevent or delay these drug cartels. They would need to cut through the fence, thus the US border patrol can gain an idea on where they will be border jumping and enforce there.

This fence is also essential to illegal immigrants crossing the border. Right now the US is in a recession and the last thing we need is illegal immigrants coming over and taking american jobs. Times are also tuff in mexico, and a reported increase of illegal immigrants are trying to get into America. I believe Obama and his administration should continue the building of the fence, and re-take a look at border patrol.

I think Obama is on the right track for Immigration policies. According to your post he does not want to continue building the 670 mile fence, but according to a Des Moines Register interview, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiUzJB3nagw
Obama actually wants those who are immigrating to our country to have a specific purpose; work leave etc... and to have proper documentation on who they are, how long they're staying etc...

I also think that if immigrants need to take refuge here in the U.S. they should have that right to do so. Not all immigrants come south of the border, some are coming from Eastern Europe or South Africa escaping genocides, war, rape, sex trafficking etc... to turn those away who need our understanding, our help is a disgrace to Human Rights. Those who need refuge should have the right like anyone else to come to a safe haven, and if that involves trying to help them achieve citizenship than that's what it means.

As far as your comment about Immigration goes, I do not agree with your views. Although, the world is in a recession, does not also mean we should be stricter on Immigration in the U.S. so "immigrants don't take our jobs." In fact, do you not think it's wrong that when the economy is blooming we welcome immigrants to take the worst jobs that we as Americans will not take, but when it's in a recession, we blame them for taking the very jobs we wouldn't take to begin with? Obama is quoted by in the NY Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/09/us/politics/09immig.html?em on April 9, 2009, by saying, "immigrants who are long-time residents but lack legal status have to have some mechanism over time to get out of the shadows,” (NY Times 09). I think he makes a really good point. Once upon a time we as Americans all started out as immigrants, than became a nation of immigrants. Than, as more and more immigrants came including, the Irish, Italians, Mexicans, Chinese, African-Americans, we as Americans also had a different ethnic group to blame for our woes. Those who come here, take the jobs we do't take, work hard to make a living, pay taxes have the right to obtain citizenship just as we all have had to do since the beginning of our Nation's history. I think we as Americans now more than ever must remember how we started, and by doing so might remember that America is suppose to be a safe haven for those who have none. I think it's extremely difficult to talk about how bad we have it here, when world-wide we do not even compare to how others are dealing with the recession. We must remember that U.S. soil is just soil, just dirt, just trees, just rocks and grass, is that something to get that upset about? No.

I have mixed feelings about this whole fence idea. I do feel that drug trafficking over the border is one of the biggest problems Mexico and the United States have. There are millions of dollars worth of drugs being smuggled every day and that is just out of control. Although this is happening I do not know if building this fence is the right thing to do. I agree with Obama in some ways and I do feel he knows what he is talking about having to do with immigration policies. I think he is on the right track and whatever decisions he is going to make, I am going to support.

I don’t know how I feel about the fence. I think that it should go up, however how much good it is going to do I don’t know. I know that a lot of immigrants from Mexico come from under ground tunnels anyways. And although I don’t know how much it cost to put up a 670 mile fence it sure isn’t cheap. I also have a friend in the National Guard who was station on the boarder. Who said that he was given a gun and if he saw a Mexican trying to cross the boarder to shoot.
I think that it should go up not to stop the immigration but to stop a number of other things. For example the Swine Flu although it is turning out a lot less bad than predicted what if it hadn’t. In a response to national security as a safety precaution I don’t think it is a bad idea. As for human rights I think that we as Americans have a responsibly to help as many as we can but to what extent, I am not sure. I know that my mother and father have helped many become citizens and that they are great people and very hard workers and have kept my parents business alive.

A little off topic, Guys... I have a question. Two days ago I found this site:
Rivalspot.com - Wii Live Tournaments
They say you can play online Madden game tournaments on any console for cash... had anyone tried that before? Looks like a cool idea...
Are there any other sites where you can play sports games for real moneys? I Googled and found only Bringit.com and Worldgaming.com but it looks these guys don't specialize in sport gamez. Any suggestions?
